Animal-vegetal section

Late Mid-blastula stage

The roof of the blastocoel consists of three to four layers of cells and it contains a precipitate. The size and arrangement of cells differ in the vegetal as compared to the animal pole. For example, in the animal pole, the cells are rounded with large intercellular spaces whereas in the vegetal pole, the cells exhibit a tighter cell-cell contact. The appearance of animal cells below the equator is indicative of the pre-gastrula epibolic movements.
