Oocyte maturation (initiation of breakdown of the germinal vesicle)
There are a large number of nucleoli in the germinal vesicles. Those, which are large are found in the outer aspects of oocyte. The first evidence of the breakdown of the germinal vesicle is development of lobulation of the the basal nuclear envelope.
