Mid-neural fold stage (embryo stage 16)
Within this stage, the nerual tube is formed in the head region at the level of the Rhombencephalon. There are bottle cells in the epithelial layer of the notoplate. These cells start to form the neural groove and the epithelial cells at the lateral border start to move toward midline. The lifting of the dorsal part the paraxial somitogenic mesoderm above the level of the notochord allows the closure of the neural tube.
