Arises from preexisting lesions of lentigo maligna
Slowly enlarging nodule
Deeply pigmented

Superficial spreading melanoma

Location: lower extremities of women, back of men .

Flat or slightly elevated papule
Pigmented
Irregular contour
Forms nodule which enlarges radially
Variation in color
Black to dark brown

Nodular melanoma

Location: neck and trunk

Lesions appear as small nodules
Enlarge horizontally and vertically
Deeply pigmented nodules
May ulcerate

Acral lentiginous melanoma

Location Palms , soles , fingers , toes & nails

Lesions appear as deep nodules
Deeply pigmented
Hutchinson's sign (Brown discoloration of the cuticle)
