FRONTIERS IN BIOSCIENCE;
NODULAR CORTICAL HYPERPLASIA OF THE ADRENAL GLAND

The term, cortical multinodular or pseudoadenomatous hyperplasia, is applied when both adrenal glands exhibit bilateral, diffuse or nodular cortical hyperplasia. Each nodule may measure up to 3 cm and the adrenal gland may weigh 30-50 grams. This unusual condition does not seem likely to be due to neoplastic growth of the adrenal cortices. Rather, it seems to arise as a consequence of a pituitary-driven hyperplasia.
