DISTINCTIVE FEATURES
Leiomyosarcomas usually occur in the female genital tract, however, these tumors may also occur in soft tissues particularly in sites where smooth muscle is present such as the grastrointestinal tract, scrotom and nipple as well as skin and other soft tissues.
Leiomyosarcomas are uncommon tumors and occur more frequently in females.
Grossly, the tumor appears as a soft, gray mass.
Microscopically, the tumor consists of long spindle cells with oval to long nuclei arranged as fasciles disposed in different directions.
Some tumors may exhibit an epitheliod or myxoid appearance.
