FRONTIERS IN BIOSCIENCE; DOI LINKS

CrossRef (http://www.crossref.org) is the official DOI (digital object identifier) registration agency for scholarly and professional publications which allows connection of references for ease of retrieval. CrossRef operates a cross-publisher citation linking system that allows a researcher to click on a reference citation on one publisher's platform and link directly to the cited content on another publisher's platform. At the present time, CrossRef citation-linking network covers millions of articles and other content items from several hundred scholarly and professional publishers. To enhance the retrieval of each article and its references, please add a second list of references with DOI links to each accepted manuscript as follows:

  • Access the simple query box of CrossRef at " http://www.crossref.org/freeTextQuery/"

  • Cut and paste a set of references (10240 characters or about 45 references) at a time into the query box and click submit. After a delay of about 30 seconds, the list of references is returned with DOI numbers appearing after each reference. For example, entering the following information " 1. V. Horsley and G. K. Pavlath: Forming a multinucleated cell: molecules that regulate myoblast fusion. Cells Tissues Organs. 176(1-3), 67-78 (2004) " into the query box returns the following information:

    1. V. Horsley and G. K. Pavlath: Forming a multinucleated cell: molecules that regulate myoblast fusion. Cells Tissues Organs. 176(1-3), 67-78 (2004)
    10.1159/000075028

The retrieved information has a hyperlink to the designated paper online.

References which are not in the CrossRef database will not have a DOI number.

    2. G. J. Spangrude, S. Heimfeld and I. L. Weissman: Purification and characterization of mouse hematopoietic stem cells. Science. 241(4861), 58-62 (1988)
    No doi match found.

  • Cut and paste the information as a table which retains the hyperlink at the end of the document in a new section entitled "References with DOI links" such as
