ULTRASTRUCTURAL FEATURES OF DUCT CELLS

Previous Slide Slide 11 Next Slide
The duct cells have a round to oval shaped nuclei. They attach to each other by juntional complexes and reside over a basement membrane consisting of basal lamina and collagen fibers. The striation of the striated ducts is as a result of extensive vertical folds forming a complex interdigitation of opposing plasma membranes (left; light microscopic image of a striated duct, right: ultrastuctural feature of a salivary duct).
