DIFFERENTIAL DIAGNOSIS

  • Sialometaplasia (squamous and occasional mucous metaplasia)
  • Inverted papillomas (lack of infiltration of surrounding tissues)
  • Cystadenoma (lack of infiltration of surrounding tissues)
  • Cystadenocarcinoma (lack of squamous differentiation)
  • Primary or metastaic squamous cell carcinoma (lack of mucus secreting cells. Presence of single cell keratinization)
  • Mixed tumor (presence of myxochondroid areas, presence of well formed ducts with round lumens)
  • Clear cell carcinoma (lack of mucous differentiation)
