HOPES FOR MULTIPLE SCLEROSIS PATIENTS
Worldwide, 1.1 million people are affected by Multiple sclerosis. This disorder affects the central nervous system, and may lead to paralysis. New research headed by Lawrence Stein at Stanford University (Palo Alto, CA) is bringing hope to the patients with multiple sclerosis. By using a peptide analog of myelin basic protein, researchers have now been able to reverse the paralysis in a mouse model of the multiple sclerosis. The outcome of the clinical testing of this strategy would reveal whether the drug can be effectively used in the treatment of paralysis in patients with multiple sclerosis.
