If your computer has a video card, then you should be able to view the videos. It is important to note, however, that certain software is required to view the videos. The software for viewing AVI, MPEG or Quicktime files can be downloaded on line. Quicktime is available at http://arnica.csustan.edu/util.html or by FTP for $9.95 from the apple FTP site. The quicktime viewer may also be purchased on CD-ROM. For movies of the MPEG format, the viewer MPEGPLAY may be obtained at the http://arnica.csustan.edu/util.html or ftp://gatekeeper.dec.com/pub/micro/msdos/win3/desktop. The files that are required are mpegwin.zip for Windows 3.1 and mpegw32g.zip for Windows NT/Windows 95. An MPEG viewer for windows 3.xx with win32s can be obtained at http://www.geom.umn.edu/software/mpeg_play/ You may wish to acquire additional information or to download either or all of the software from one of the sites shown below:

Quicktime software for Macintosh or Windows

For viewing a video segment, the video file should be downloaded into you computer. Videos may be zipped, but they will be self-extracting. In order to view these files, you must first extract them by typing the file name at the C:\ prompt or by double-clicking the filename while in windows' file manager. In order to expedite the downloading, it is best if you download the video into the C:\ rather than any other drive. The duration of the downloading depends on the configuration of your system and the traffic on the internet. Generally, it takes up to 10 minutes to download a 1 megabyte file. The AVI videos have a smoother appearance on most computers, unless your computer has an MPEG board. If this is the case, then the MPEG files will also have a good quality of presentation. There is some software that allows conversion of one video format to another. These may be obtained from the sites shown above or other locations which offer shareware.
